Large beanies are 12" tall
Small beanies are 8" tall
The width of both beanies are the same and are super stretchy. Width is the same as our size large knot hats, which fits about age 9m+ best.
Younger babies wearing size small, or toddlers wearing size large, would just have a slouchier look. Small will likely not fit larger than a 6 year old, see photo below.
