1st Thanksgiving Ideas

by Jess W

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I am sure you are excited about the firsts your little man will experience this Thanksgiving. With Turkey and thankfulness being the centerpieces for this holiday, you may be wondering how to include your new baby and how to make his first thanksgiving special. Here's some of our favorite ideas:

  1. Cook him his own special feast

Turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberries, green beans – whatever comes to mind for your Thanksgiving, if baby is eating solids, he can join in on the fun. Throw a bite or two of everything safe into a processor, and puree for baby’s first Thanksgiving feast!

  1. Dress him in a special outfit

Something that I have always loved to do is dress my kids up on special holidays. (I’m of course partial to the adorable sets at Cuddle Sleep Dream - Turkey tie! My First Thanksgiving tie!), but if this is your baby boy’s first thanksgiving, he needs something special for sure. Top it off with a holiday bib or extra cute shoes! It may be the first time he’s meeting some family, so that means lots of pictures.

  1. Have a photo shoot

Why not go all out and have a full photoshoot? You can hire a professional and get pictures taken ahead of time, or do a DIY shoot on Thanksgiving Day. Gather some props and have an amazing time! You will have these pictures to look back on for years to come.

  1. Make the traditional turkey out of handprints

Whenever you are not sure how to make Thanksgiving special, you can always rely on a craft. There are tons of crafts that you can execute to make this holiday special. However, my favorite for babies are handprint crafts. Making a turkey out of handprints is an easy and adorable keepsake you can use to decorate with for years!

  1. Create your own traditions

The best part of these “first” holidays is that you can create your own traditions. You have a blank slate and the possibility to create any tradition you want. Maybe that means a special Thanksgiving breakfast or a special movie in the morning. Perhaps you will attend parade together, as a family, or you will go to the beach. There is never a right or wrong when it comes to making a holiday special for your little man. Do something different!

  1. Just enjoy being together

Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that doesn’t require a bunch of gifts and frivolousness. Instead, you can enjoy just being together. This is perfect for big and small families. I say, take the pressure off of yourself and just enjoy being together as a family.
