Baby's 1st Halloween Bucket List

October 15, 2017 3 min read

Holidays with new babies are so exciting! We can't wait to start passing on traditions and making new memories with our minis.

But like most holidays in the first year, babies are limited in what they can do.  They won't be excited about trick or treating and or stuffing their faces with candy! So what can you do with a baby for their first Halloween? Plenty! Here's a baby's 1st Halloween bucket list:

1. Dress him in a costume

You can go easy and comfortable with a nice little footie or go all out.  It probably depends on your baby's age, temperament, (and your enthusiasm level!).  There are also many costume ideas for wearing baby in a carrier. But you can't miss the opportunity.  (We have some cute ideas for baby boy costumes with our tie outfits!)

2. Take special pictures

Most importantly, take pictures! Some moms go to a professional and do a photoshoot at a pumpkin patch or with a spooky set, others opt to take pictures on their own. But don’t forget to get the obligatory baby in costume, baby with pumpkin, baby with a some loose candy corn, and baby with mom pictures!

3. Pass out candy

Passing out candy can be even better than walking around! You get to meet/see all the neighborhood kids, and you don’t have to worry about scaring your own baby. All the other parents will ooo and ahhh at your little one's 1st Halloween without all that pesky "cold" and "walking".

4. Watch a Halloween parade

Many towns host a Halloween parade and/or costume contest. Whether you choose to dress him up or not, it will be fun to watch and get ideas for his future Halloweens! He will definitely love watching all the action.  And hey, any excuse to get out of the house some days, right?

5. Try a new food: pumpkin!

Is baby eating solids? Why not give him some pumpkin to try! It's easy to find puree recipes, and you can even add a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.

6. Read a Halloween book

Check your local book store or Amazon for ideas. But there are a ton of adorable Halloween themed books available for babies that are not at all scary.  (We found Little Owl Night that way, and it's been a favorite in our house for years since!)

7. Get a cute "My 1st Halloween" outfit

Even if you plan on dressing up baby, there's a good chance he's not going to stay in costume all night. So make sure you have something cute and festive for before and after the main event.

We have a ton of cute halloween outfits for baby boys here. And this adorable My 1st Halloween onesie and leggings will work for a baby boy or girl.

8. Go to a pumpkin patch

It wouldn't be a baby's 1st October without a pumpkin patch visit. So many cute picture opportunities.  Babies love the crisp fall air and all the attention!

9. Make a keepsake

Have you seen those adorable crafts on Pinterest that are made from baby’s handprints or footprints? They are so easy and cute! We did a round-up of halloween keepsakes here.

We hope you found some ideas you love! Feel free to pin this graphic below so you can find them later.
